You joined the waiting list for a sold-out event or a ticket category, a ticket became available for you, but the automatic payment didn't go through?
Here's what happens next and what you can do to make sure your payment can go through if another ticket becomes available.
This article is about payments that fail on the waiting list.
→ If your payment failed on a normal purchase, see 🚫 My payment won’t go through
→ If you were charged for a waiting list ticket you no longer wanted, see 💥 I was charged after joining the waiting list
👉 Why was my waiting list payment attempted automatically?
When you join the waiting list, you agree to be charged automatically if a ticket becomes available for you. There's no separate purchase for you to complete: your card is charged and your ticket is generated in one step.
If a ticket becomes available after you've joined the waiting list, you may receive a notification shortly before the automatic purchase takes place. If you receive this notification and no longer want the ticket, you can leave the waiting list before the purchase.
If a ticket is already available when you join the waiting list, the automatic purchase may happen immediately and you may not receive a notification beforehand.

👉 What happens if my waiting list payment fails?
If the automatic payment doesn't go through, you return to the end of the waiting list. You're not removed from the list, but other people who were already waiting may be considered before you.
If another ticket becomes available for you later, the payment will be attempted automatically again.
That's why it's important to make sure your saved payment method is ready for the next opportunity.
👉Can I change the payment method linked to my waiting list?
You can change the payment method linked to your waiting list at any time before the next payment attempt, or after a payment has failed.
To change it:
- Open the Shotgun app.
- Go to My tickets.
- Open the Pending tab.
- Visit the event page and select You're on the waiting list.
- Next to the current payment method, select Change.
- Choose another saved payment method or add a new one.
Once you've changed it, the new payment method will be used for the next automatic payment attempt.
👉 How can I make sure my payment works next time?
If your waiting list payment failed, start by checking the card saved on your Shotgun account:
- Make sure the card is valid and not expired.
- Make sure the card is not blocked and allows online purchases.
- Make sure the card has enough available balance.
- Make sure your card supports 3D Secure authentication and complete the authentication if you're asked to do so.
- Update the Shotgun app to the latest version.

If your card is fine and the payment still fails, the checks in 🚫 My payment won’t go through apply here too.
If you're still having trouble after these checks, contact the Shotgun Care team.
