📜 I want to join or leave a waiting list

The event or ticket you want to attend is sold out, but you'd still like to get a ticket?

The waiting list gives you a chance to buy a ticket if another one becomes available.

This article explains how to join the waiting list, what happens when a ticket becomes available, and how to leave it.

👉 How do I join the waiting list?

The waiting list is only available in the Shotgun app, not on the website.

1. Open the Shotgun app and go to the event page.
2. At the bottom of the page, tap Join waiting list.
3. Choose your ticket category if the event has more than one.
4. Confirm that you want to join.

Before you confirm, you'll see the price range you may be charged. Make sure you're comfortable with the amount shown, as the ticket you receive may have a different price from the one you originally saw on the event page.

Buying through the waiting list includes a 15% fee. See Shotgun fees for more information.

Make sure push notifications are enabled. When a ticket becomes available after you've joined the waiting list, you may receive a notification shortly before the automatic purchase takes place.

👉 How does the waiting list work?

The waiting list connects people who want to buy a sold-out ticket with tickets that become available through resale.

This means your chances of getting a ticket depend on both the number of people reselling their tickets and the number of people already waiting ahead of you.

A few things to keep in mind:

• Joining the waiting list doesn't guarantee you'll get a ticket. A ticket needs to become available through resale, and there may be other people waiting for it before you. The earlier you join the waiting list, the earlier you're considered when a ticket becomes available.
• You can be on the waiting list for one ticket at a time. If you want two tickets, you'll need to receive the first one before joining again, or the other person can join from their own account.
• If only one ticket category is sold out, you can join the waiting list for that category specifically.
• You can be on the waiting list for one ticket category at a time. If you join the waiting list for another category at the same event, your previous registration is cancelled.
• A ticket can be offered to you up to 1 hour before the point when that ticket would stop being valid.
• The ticket you receive may not be the same price as the ticket you originally saw on the event page. The price range is shown before you join the waiting list. See Why is the price higher on the waiting list?

👉 What happens when a ticket becomes available?

If a ticket becomes available after you've joined the waiting list, you may receive a notification shortly before the automatic purchase takes place. If you receive this notification and no longer want the ticket, you can leave the waiting list before the purchase.

If a ticket is already available when you join the waiting list, the automatic purchase may happen immediately and you may not receive a notification beforehand.

When the automatic purchase takes place:

1. Your card is charged automatically.
2. Your ticket is generated and added to your Shotgun account.
3. You'll receive your order confirmation by email.

If the payment doesn't go through, you return to the end of the waiting list and can wait for another ticket to become available.

👉 Why can't I find the "Join waiting list" button?

First, make sure you're using the Shotgun app. The waiting list isn't available on the website.

If you're on the app and there's no Join waiting list button on the event page, it means the waiting list isn't available for that event or ticket category.

This can happen when resale isn't available, since the waiting list relies on tickets being put back on sale.

👉 I can’t join the waiting list

First, make sure you're using the latest version of the Shotgun app, then try joining again.

If you still can't join after updating the app, contact the Shotgun Care team so we can check what may be preventing you from joining.

What we need from you:

• The email address of your Shotgun account
• The name and date of the event
• Your app version and phone operating system
• A screenshot of what you see when you try to join

👉 How do I leave the waiting list?

You stay on the waiting list until you leave it yourself. Buying a ticket somewhere else, buying one at the door, or simply deciding not to attend the event doesn't remove you from the waiting list.

A ticket can become available for you at any time — a few days after you join, or even on the day of the event. Depending on when the ticket becomes available, you may receive a notification before the automatic purchase, or the purchase may happen immediately if a ticket is already available when you join.

If you no longer want a ticket, leaving the waiting list is the only way to stop being considered for a ticket and prevent a future automatic charge.

To leave the waiting list:

1. Go back to the event page in the Shotgun app.
2. Tap the button you used to join the waiting list.
3. Tap Leave the waiting list.

Once you've left, you won't be charged if another ticket becomes available through the waiting list.
